I had the gift of sharing a retreat with some wonderful women recently. At one point, we sat together, holding torn pieces of colored paper in our hands… pieces that reminded us all of how “broken” and “torn” we all are at so many times in our lives. One by one, we placed our pieces of paper on the cross, each one representing a particular burden we were giving to the Lord.
When we finished, someone glued the pieces onto the cross… and all of a sudden the cross was “whole” again, and our burdens had been lifted.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take My yolk upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your souls will find rest, for My yolk is easy and My burden light.”
– Matthew 11:28
So, Lord, I pray we can remember that You are always waiting to help carry our crosses, if we only come to You with our brokenness.
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted, and those who are crushed in spirit, He saves.”
